Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 9:15
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
Thought for the Day: I don’t know where it came from, but for the longest time, I have a little quote in my desk that said, “The one who enjoys God’s gifts without giving in return is nothing but a thief.” The first time I read it I almost crumpled it up and tossed it in the trash. It’s tough language. It made me squirm and it continues to do so, but when the Apostle Paul spoke of gratitude, it rarely had anything to do with a verbally expressed Thank You. Through the latter part of this chapter in 2nd Corinthians, Paul was pretty blunt with his audience as he spoke about the correlation between planting and reaping. If you plant sparingly, you will reap sparingly. He goes on to talk about great generosity as an expression of gratitude. As human beings, we were created as vessels that can both receive and distribute. If we do not pour out what we have already received, there is no room to receive that which is to come. May our gratitude in response to God’s indescribable gift have some real substance to it, for in giving away, we always make room for more that can be given away.
Prayer: O Mighty Counselor, guide me in the movement from gratitude to gener- osity that often spurs more gratitude. Amen.
Response: Take a moment to reflect on a time when you have been able to visu- ally perceive someone’s gratitude. What shape does gratitude take? As a wit- ness to gratitude, what happened within you? What did you feel? Was there any response? Take a moment to ponder one tangible way that Cypress Creek Christian Church could help create a culture of gratitude, tangible gratitude?
