Scripture: Mark 12:10-11
Have you not read this scripture: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is amazing in our eyes?”
Thought for the Day: Though Billy Graham and I might view the Bible a bit differently, I like what he had to say about those who own a Bible but ‘have not read the scriptures.’ He says, “The mistake that many make is that they worship the Bible. The Bible becomes sort of a fetish and we have it in our homes. A lot of people wouldn’t have a home unless they have a Bible in it. But they never look at the Bible. So the Bible is just disregarded as far as they are concerned. It means nothing to them… sort of an icon.” Have you ever seen the Bible revered instead of the One to whom the Bible points? Just in the last week, I’ve had two people tell me what the Bible says, but they were wrong. In both cases, they were giving long held traditions, but traditions don’t always come from the Bible. At times, beloved traditions are even contrary to the Good News.
Prayer: May I continue to seek you, O God, by means of all the stories, traditions and symbols which announce your amazing grace. Amen.
