Scripture: Matthew 6:19-20
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Thought for the Day: There is a story of a woman who had every luxury in life. She died, and when she arrived in heaven, an angel was sent to guide her to the house that had been prepared for her. They passed many large and beautiful mansions and the woman thought that each one, as they came to it, must be the one allotted to her. When they passed through the main streets they came to the outskirts where the houses were much smaller; and on the very fringe they came to a house which was little more like a small bungalow. “That is your house,” said the angel. “What!” said the woman. “I cannot live in that. That is so much smaller than what I had on earth. I made excellent money, and I had a fabulous home in my earthly life. This is not what I expected in heaven!” “I’m sorry,” said the angel, “but that is all we could build from the materials you sent us.”
Prayer: O God of heaven and earth, may the generosity of my life help to build your glorious kingdom. Amen.
