Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Proverb 9:6
Lay aside immaturity, and live, and walk in the way of insight.

Thought for the Day: Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that the “purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”  Those words might feel uncomfortable for some people as they, if given the choice, would request some happiness.  I would tend to agree, though the happiness spoken of by Emerson may not be exactly what you and I were thinking about. Too often people become obsessed with a vision of happiness that is rooted in those things that are short-lived and superficial.  People might even fulfill their dream of happiness only to discover, after a period of time, that they want something else… meaning, purpose, value.

Prayer: Provide me insight, Merciful Creator, so I might walk in the way you intended all of us to live.  Amen.
