Scripture: 1st John 4:19
We love because God first loved us.
Thought for the Day: As I’ve talked about over the last couple of Sundays and will again today, we cannot do anything as Christians until we first understand the love of God that was extended to us while we were still far from where we needed to be. It was Leonardo da Vinci who wrote, “He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards his ship without a rudder and compass and never knows where he may cast.” I don’t believe da Vinci was putting theory or contemplation above practice, but he recognized how practicing anything, including our faith, must first be centered in a knowledge of why we are doing it in the first place. As people of faith, we love because God first loved us. Without first giving credit where credit is due (God), we are like a sailor who boards his ship without a rudder and compass. It is only in a knowledge of God’s love that we are able to unleash that selfless and transformative love that will change the world.
Prayer: Continue to be with me, Loving God, with a love that is beyond measure. Allow your work in Christ to inspire me to live in such a way that your unmerited gift is made real for others. Amen.
Come and hear more about it today…
