Scripture: John 7:1 (the Message)
Later Jesus was going about his business in Galilee. He didn’t want to travel in Judea because the Jews there were looking for a chance to kill him.

Thought for the Day: I was initially reading this verse in the New Revised Standard Version, but the Message caught my attention.  How does a person go about his business when in a nearby town there are those who would like to see him dead?  Personally, I can put on a good face in difficult times, but I’ve never had someone who wanted to see me dead (or if they did, they didn’t inform me of that fact). With all seriousness, Jesus caused a great stir with his ministry and message.  And even though the Jewish leadership is depicted as those who were most frustrated with him, it was the Roman Empire who didn’t play games when it came to those who undermined their authority.  The passage says that Jesus went about his business which probably meant he continued to do those things that would tick-off the Romans.  Jesus was a trouble-maker, and his activity would eventually push the authorities to the place where they didn’t believe they had any other choice then execution.  Yet even then, Jesus remained about his business of demonstrating the power of love that would rattle even the greatest of empires.

Prayer: Lord, no matter the trouble I encounter, keep me about the good business of faithful living.  Amen.
