Scripture: James 3:13-15
Are any of you wise and understanding? Show that your actions are good with a humble lifestyle that comes from wisdom. However, if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, then stop bragging and living in ways that deny the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above. Instead, it is from the earth, natural and demonic.
Thought for the Day: It is interesting how James links humility and wisdom, and as I reflect on that idea more, it makes complete sense. Humility requires a perspective of life and the world around us that is non-egocentric. Some describe wisdom as having a little God-perspective. It is impossible – at least as I see it – to be humble and egotistical at the same time. When you are able to remove yourself and your own needs from a situation, you are much more likely to speak and act in a way that is wise and God-like.
Prayer: Continue to allow your Spirit, O Gentle and Caring God, to work in me that I might humble myself and exhibit your wisdom. Amen.
