By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday, we started the Jesus Apprentice classes. This Sunday, I will begin preaching on the theme of Jesus Apprentice: Consistency in word and deed. This is absolutely necessary for anyone seeking to be in the Jesus apprentice track. There will be another class this Sunday at 11:00am for anyone who was unable to attend on Wednesday, so please consider joining.
For Jesus, hypocrisy appeared to be one of his greatest concerns. It not only created an inauthentic understanding of God’s hope for the world, but in the end, it turned people away from both the inauthentic and those attempting to be authentic. Hypocrisy is damaging in ways we cannot even imagine. In Paul’s Letter to the Galatians, we find nine attributes associated with the fruit of the Spirit. Notice that it doesn’t say fruits (plural), but fruit (singular). These are not different fruits that we can harvest as needed or pick and choose. They are a collection, and as those of us working to receive the Spirit of Christ through apprenticeship, we are to see all nine of these attributes bear fruit in our lives. Let us continue to look to Jesus as the model, teacher and grace-filled guide.
