Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 104:24StFrancis-FB
O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Thought for the Day: Albert Schweitzer was one amazing man, and though there are some who might have disagreed with his theology, it is hard to disagree with how that theology came to life.  He had a simple prayer in which he said, “Dear God, protect and bless all beings that breathe, keep all suffering from them, and let them sleep in peace. Amen.”  For Schweitzer, respecting all living things was central to his beliefs.   The moment we start drawing lines and creating hierarchies of value is the moment we opened the door to self-centeredness, bigotry and even violence.  I don’t know if I could go as far as he did, but it is hard to argue with the results of his convictions.

As we get ready for the Blessing of the Animals and Stuffed Animals this Saturday (10am – 1pm), please be prayerful for all the creatures who will share in this wonderful time of thanksgiving and reverence.

Prayer: Dear God, encourage me as I strive to appreciate and respect all that you appreciate and respect.  Amen.
