God does not call us to be successful, but rather He calls us to be faithful. Faithful to Christ’s command to Love God with all our heart, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
When we do this, we will be living a life of abundance. Abundant in all that really matters: happiness, peace, faith, hope and most of all love.
In Matthew 16, The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven….they were looking to trap Jesus as a fraud so they could claim their power over him and his followers but he refused to go along with their test. Later in this scripture, Jesus reminds the Disciples about the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls they gathered. And of the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls were gathered. He asks “How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
He was reminding them an abundant life, all that really matters, has nothing to do with the success of this world, and everything to do with the call to faithfulness.
