Ecclesiological Etchings

From Rev. Norma Lowrey

Scripture:  Matthew 16:6-9
“Watch out!” Jesus warned them.  “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”  At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread.  Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “You have so little faith!  Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread?  Don’t you understand even yet?  Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the large baskets of leftovers you picked up?

Thought for the Day:  Every time I read the original story of how Jesus fed the 5,000 with such meager fair, I am reminded of the many folks my mother fed not on a daily basis, but sometimes on a weekly basis.  We always had a construction project going on at our house, a garage building, new wiring or plumbing, hanging sheetrock, etc.  You name it!  The Lowreys was a happening place.  We had friends and family come to help.  I didn’t realize it then, but do now, but because of my parents’ faith and giving to others, provisions would come their way either in food to feed the workers or materials to complete the project.  Through faithfulness, my family paid forward so many times, only to have the “favors” or “good deeds” returned a 1,000 times over.

Prayer:  O God, help me to continue the teachings of my family to look to you and your Son for the help and provisions I need.  Help me pass that love and faith on to others.  In Jesus name. Amen.
