Scripture: Proverbs 18:12
Before destruction one’s heart is haughty, but humility goes before honor.
Thought for the Day: If you hadn’t noticed, there is some craziness in Washington, DC. Everyone appears to be deflecting blame by putting more blame on someone else. Amidst these games that have no winners or losers, the Chaplain of the United States Senate, Rev. Barry Black, offered a prayer in which he said, “Remove from [the Senators] that stubborn pride which imagines itself to be above and beyond criticism. Forgive them for the blunders they have committed, infusing them with the courage to admit and correct mistakes.” This Retired Navy Rear Admiral has chosen to put aside pretty prayers and to speak truth to power. He closed another prayer by offering the words, “Deliver us from the hypocrisy of attempting to sound reasonable while being unreasonable…” I have my opinions on this current issue, but until we all choose humility over blind ideology, we will remain a nation stuck in an unreconcilable divide. It is time for everyone to take a breath, take a knee and take a dose of humility.
Prayer: God, we need some help here…yet to accept your help, we must put aside some ego. So help us with the ego thing first, and then maybe we can deal with the other issues. Amen.
