Scripture: Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones.
Thought for Day: I have been laughing ever since I read these words from Rodney Dangerfield:
This morning when I put on my underwear
I could hear the fruit-of-the-loom guys laughing.
I really appreciate self-deprecating humor, and though I’m not suggesting we put ourselves down in an unhealthy way, there is something spiritually and emotionally beneficial at being able to laugh at those imperfections, odd behaviors or major blunders within our own lives. Equally important, naming and laughing at those things we’d rather hide from the world make us a bit more compassionate and bit less judgmental when it comes to other people who have similar lists of imperfections, odd behaviors and major blunders.
Prayer: Thanks for the gift of laughter, O Lord who desires to see joy in the lives of humanity. As we take our faith seriously, let us never take ourselves too seriously. Amen.
