Scripture: Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Thought for the Day: Those words of scripture were made famous by the song writer, Amy Grant. People often think of them associated with moving from a place of trouble to a place of security, but I don’t believe it necessarily is intended only for the difficult times of life. Is not life always a journey, a process of moving from one point to another—physically, spiritually or emotionally. The current Moderator of our Denomination and respected colleague, Rev. Glen Miles, posted the following quote on Facebook not long ago: “We want life to have meaning, and want to be fulfilled, and it is hard to accept that we find these things by starting where we are, not where we would like to be” (Kathleen Norris). I think the light we want to see on our path is the bright flash of the Star Trek transporter that instantaneously beams us to our destination. It’s a nice science fiction image, yet that’s not the way it will happen for us. Instead, the light shines only a few inches beyond our biggest toe, guiding us ever so slowly along a path. We need to appreciate the journey, for it is where most of us will spend a majority of our lives. In fact, most of the profound God-moments of my life happened on my way to church or some other ‘religious destination.’ Quite often my journey has been interrupted by God, only to show that the journey was the intended destination from the beginning.

Prayer: Guide me, O Loving God, into moments where I can enjoy you and life and the people around me. Even if I never make it to the original goal, help me to name you as the true destination for which my life yearns. Amen.
