Thought for the Day: On Stardate 3198.4, Spock offers an insightful thought: “Curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want.” This quote might make me sound like a Star Trek Geek, but the character played by Leonard Nimoy points out a rather strange happening among us humans. We can convince ourselves that life can’t exist without Object X, and when we finally have sacrificed a great deal to obtain Object X, we realized that it doesn’t satisfy the yearning we had felt. Too often we convince ourselves that obtaining a certain thing will be the key to happiness, but in the end, the attempt to obtain whatever the thing might be does damage to our capacity to be happy.
Prayer: Today, God, I need your assistance as I strive for a sense of joy and contentment that is found only in a growing relationship with you. Help me to love you more fully, and in doing so, love others as you would have me do. Amen.
