Scripture: Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Thought for the Day: On this day in 1928, the first ‘iron lung’ respirator was used at a children’s hospital in Boston. In the years that followed, there would be so many people all over the world who be saved because of this invention. Though modern technology has taken breathing machines a different direction from that original design, the iron lung put the breath of life back into lungs of so many people. As I understand it, this tube shaped machine allowed someone to breathe when normal muscle control had been lost. Over the years, I think God has used different means to push the spirit (the breath of God) back into the lungs and body of the church. Today, there are more local congregations in crisis than there are congregations that are thriving. Yet God does not give-up…and if we’re paying close attention, I think we can see where God is using all kinds of mechanisms to push that life-giving force back into the entity known as the church.
Prayer: Use me, O Lord, to be one of the means by which your life-giving breath returns to the body of Christ called the church. Amen.
