Scripture: Psalm 25:9
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
Thought for the Day: Not too long ago, I was reminded of the song by the Oak Ridge Boys entitled, “Nobody Wants to Play Rhythm Guitar Behind Jesus; Everyone Wants to Be the Leader of the Band.” That’s definitely a mouthful, but with a little humor the song teaches us about humility (or a lack there of). My grandfather used to say to me, “It’s okay to play second fiddle”, and I would just nod my head in agreement. I didn’t have a clue what he meant by it at the time, but his pithy saying was accurate. As people of faith, we need to feel comfortable playing second fiddle. It is just fine to play rhythm guitar behind Jesus. It is okay to be in a supporting role in the Christian life. In fact, it is more than okay. It is exactly what we have been called to do.
Prayer: As this day begins, Merciful God, invite me into the Jesus-like life where humility and service are the defining attributes. Amen.
