Scripture: Ephesians 1:17-18
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints…

Thought for the Day: It was 65 years ago today that an interesting banner headline appeared on the front page of the Chicago Tribune.  It read, “Dewey Defeats Truman”.  Those words appeared the day after the presidential election, and of course, they were incorrect.  There were a number of reasons for why it happened, but a blind confidence among some of the newspaper staff sure didn’t help.  How often do we look ahead to what we want and miss all the signals that communicate what will be?  I see Christians expect their wishes to happen because they prayed and they were certain God would want to see these wishes come to fruition.  Yet their expectation of what they wanted blinded them to all kinds of other important facts that should have been discerned.  Let’s make sure that the whispers of the spirit are not ignored because of the aggressive shouting from our own desires.

Prayer: May I discern with your spirit of wisdom, O Lord, so my wishes might align with your great vision.  Amen.
