Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Ephesians 4:11-13
The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.

Thought for the Day: A church is never defined by the gifts of its pastor, but by the gifts of its congregants.  At the end of the day, a pastor can preach a sermon while juggling 3 flaming knives on a tightrope over a pit of alligators, and if the congregants do not embrace their gifts, the church will fail.  When you come to worship this Sunday, don’t expect to see flaming anything or a high-wire act, but you will see some of the most amazing gifts in the people with whom you worship.

Prayer: May the gifts you have given me, O Lord, be bound together with the gifts of my community for the building of the Body of Christ.  Amen.
