Scripture: Titus 3:4-7

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.  This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Thought for the Day: I would invite you to re-read the above words of scripture.  Theologians can debate and discuss certain aspects of this passage, along with their theological ramifications, but at its core, this passage allows us to peek inside the heart of God.  Love is never earned or obtained by what we do or what we believe.  Love is its own motivator, and the pure love found within the divine chooses to act simply because that’s what love does.  Over the years, the church sure has done a lot of funny things to regulate and demarcate the nature of God’s love.  It might have made some folks feel more comfortable to think they had a good grip on God’s love, but only God has that grip.  And from what I see, it sure appears God has chosen to let go and let love flow freely.

Prayer: Give me a moment, God, so I might appreciate again the amazing and far-reaching character of your love.  Amen.
