As God’s household, you are built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.
Prayer: When so many events appear to undermine the foundation of life, we find apprehension and anxiousness sneaking in and causing our legs to quiver. When everything we have built, from our homes to our bank accounts, seems to be threatened, we begin to wonder if tomorrow’s sunrise will come. Too often, O God of Mercy, we have allowed the foundations built with human aspiration and perspiration to be confused with your everlasting foundation built upon the faithful lives of so many, beginning with the faithful life of Christ Jesus. We wonder why rocks of ego and the stones of personal success seem durable until they crumble under so little pressure. What does it mean to build our life, our collective life as a community, upon the bedrock of your grace that is reinforce by your unmerited love? We turn to you, O Lord, for your household is from everlasting to everlasting. When everything we have trusted within this world disappoints us and leaves us bewildered, we regroup around you, the one who builds foundations without flaw. With the example and encouragement of Jesus, we can find our footing. With his sacrificial love as the cornerstone, we feel both propped up and empowered for the challenging and often thankless work of the Gospel. This is our humble and appreciative prayer offered in the name of Jesus the Messiah. Amen.
