Scripture: Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).
Thought for the Day: I often hear people say, “Idolatry is a sin of the Old Testament. No one worships idols anymore.” I can’t disagree more! Idolatry may not take on the same form as it did 3000 years ago, but anytime we put something temporary above the One that is eternal, it is idolatry. We are choosing something other than God to have sway over our decision-making. In part, this is why the scriptures call for us to bring our offerings before God. The act of giving away allows us to put an item so easily mistaken as a god before the One who truly is our God.
Prayer: Whatever my idols might be, O Lord of all, may I bring them to your throne of grace as a symbol of their submissive role before you. Amen.
