Scripture: Genesis 12:2
I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday, I preached on the importance of seeing blessings as a gift that comes from above. We are not the source, but the vehicle God uses. Blessings originate within God, and when God pours them into humanity, they come with such abundance that we should clearly understand that they are intended for more than just us. In Genesis 12, the Lord is calling Abraham and Sarah to leave behind everything – their home, their way of life, their family and their security. God intended to bless these faithful folks, but not for their own well being, but for the purpose of blessing others. The gifts we are given are not for our enjoyment or personal gain, but for the sake of the Kingdom of God. We receive so that we might share; we are gifted so that we might give it away. As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving and to offer gratitude for the blessings of God, let us be mindful of God’s expectation for those blessings.
Prayer: With your abundant love, O Mighty God, there is always enough and more… enough for all and still leftovers. Thank you for providing! Amen.
