Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Isaiah 42:6-7

I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.

Thought for the Day:  This is one of four servant poems found in the prophetic book of Isaiah.  Though Christians have understood these words as pointing specifically to Jesus, they were in fact referring to the Hebrew people’s time in Exile and their eventual liberation from Babylonian bondage.  With that said, these poems provide us a glimpse into the divine work of healing and deliverance that will never cease.  Advent is the season in which we wait for the advent of God who will once again embody these words from Isaiah…embody them by means of those who follow in God’s ways.

Prayer: Wonderful Counselor and Mighty God, awaken our spirits so we will observe the advent of your saving work as it happens among us again.  Amen.
