Scripture: Daniel 6:16-17
Then the king gave the command, and Daniel was brought and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you faithfully serve, deliver you!” A stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, so that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday I had a dentist appointment, and during my routine cleaning, I fell asleep. Actually, it happened twice. I know some folks who are terrified of the dentist, and even with good drugs, they wouldn’t fall asleep anywhere near a dentist. Please understand, I’m not equating a dentist’s office with a lion’s den – well, maybe I am – but I just don’t think twice about the experience… even when they have had to do more than a cleaning. Why is it that my anxiety is so low in that setting and others so high?
Now before I make myself sound like some modern day Daniel, there are other things that scare the bejeebers out of me that others would find strange, almost silly. In fact, they would fall asleep comfortable in the setting that sets my heart rate to an aerobic level. Life is a constant struggle with our fears, and one of the fears is people finding out our fears. The life of Daniel is a model of one who finds the peace of God amidst the fear producing storms of life. I don’t know if Daniel had a good support group, but I would encourage you to find faithful friends and counselors who will help you sort out those fears that often keep the peace of God just out of reach.
Prayer: O Wonderful Counselor, in this amazing time of the year when peace is proclaimed, let me find your gift of peace that will help me live more fully amidst all the fear producing circumstances I may encounter. Amen.
