Scripture: Isaiah 9:7
His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Thought for the Day: I have always loved the hymn, Come, O Long-expected Jesus, especially the 2nd verse. The first half of the second verse reads, “Born your people to deliver, born a child, and yet a king, born to reign in us forever, born your gracious realm to bring.” It describes a process by which God first acts on our behalf, then God becomes deeply embedded within us, and finally, through us, God begins to shape a new realm of grace in the here and now. At what point in the process is God at work in your life? Is God just beginning to act? Is God beginning to reside more deeply? Is God using you to change your sphere of influence? At whatever point God is acting in your life, be thankful for God’s gracious attitude that meets us wherever we are.
Prayer: I am a part of your creation, yet I am still in need of you, my Creator. Work with me at my point of need, Lord, and by doing so, I will become more fully a disciple of your gracious gift that was born into this world. Amen.
