Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Matthew 3:3
This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”

Thought for the Day: Dietrich Bonheoffer, the wonderful pastor and theologian, wrote, “A prison cell, in which one waits, hopes – and is completely dependent on the fact that the door of freedom has to be opened from the outside, is not a bad picture of Advent.”  Though there is much we can do to better prepare ourselves during this season, it is ultimately the gift of God that brings the experience of this season to fruition.   One of the things to work on during the next few weeks is expectant waiting so that it is God’s gift that we are receiving and not some self-manufactured perception of what that gift should be.

Prayer: Holy God, help me to make good use of this season of waiting.  May what some would describe as a delay be full of spiritual learning.  Amen.
