Scripture: Genesis 39:20-21a
And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined; he remained there in prison. But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love…
Thought for the Day: Today in worship, we are talking about making the best of every moment. Of not simply pondering what could be down the road, but what should be pondered and pursued about the present. Joseph was unjustly imprisoned, and had he bemoaned his situation, I think anyone would have understood. Had he curled himself into ball and cried day and night, I think most of us would have understood. Some might have described the unjust imprisonment as part of God’s plan, but I personally don’t think God controls are lives with that kind of forceful management. Instead, God is the respecter of freewill, and with that, God must work with the circumstances that human beings create. The decision to erroneously accuse Joseph was not God’s doing, but to come alongside an imprisoned Joseph with steadfast love was God’s decision. A faithful person like Joseph doesn’t sit back and dream of the day when s/he will be released or when s/he’ll get revenge. Instead, the faithful person is all about looking for opportunities of faithfulness no matter the current circumstance.
Prayer: Though my mind desires to wander to a better place or happier circumstance, I seek your assistance, O God who comes alongside me. Encourage me as I find the opportunities available to me right now. Amen.
