Scripture: Isaiah 9:6
For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Thought for the Day: A commercial came on TV for a retail chain, and the voice joyfully exclaimed that everything was on sale. The line that caught my attention was, “Can Christmas get any better than this?” My response, “I hope so!” If the joyous news of the Wonderful Counselor and Prince of Peace can be summarized in 50% off stuff that no one really needs, then I guess it can’t get any better. But if we believe the deepest yearnings of the human soul and the greatest social issues facing our world can find hope in the gift of divine love, then I think we can clearly say, “Oh yes it can!” to the retailer who asks the question, “Can Christmas get any better than this?”
Prayer: O Mighty God, a child has been born for us. With great respect and gratitude for this gift, we refuse to allow the generosity of your spirit to be usurped by cultural greed. Amen.
