Scripture: Mark 10:45
For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday, I had the joy and honor of attending a graduation in Austin. Joseph Cano, a member of our congregation, finished his training to become a State Trooper in Texas. He, along with 108 other men and women, joined the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Ranger. It was a wonderful ceremony, and I appreciate those in law enforcement who remain committed to the ideal of public servant. It cannot be easy, and in fact, there are those in many areas of public life who lose sight of their initial purpose. I would go beyond those in government, and look at clergy who have lost sight of their original calling. It is one thing to make the initial commitment as a servant, but as time goes on, it becomes more and more difficult to maintain it. Today, I am thankful for the commitment Joseph brings to his profession, and knowing what I know of him, he will be an the exemplary model throughout his career.
Prayer: I give thanks to you, O God, for all who give of themselves in service to others. Amen.
And don’t forget…
