Scripture: Psalm 107:14
The Lord brought them out of darkness and gloom, and broke their bonds asunder.
Thought for the Day: It wasn’t long ago that we celebrated the 148th anniversary of the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment. As you know, this important Amendment abolished the practice of slavery here in the United States. Since the ratification, nearly 150 Christmas seasons have come and gone. Each of those years, the message of Christ’s birth has been joyfully announced. This is the One who embodied a new Exodus that would break the bonds of slavery once and for all. Maybe by the 150th anniversary, we will see a full manifestation of those words among the people who claim to be followers of that child. For on this day, there are still sisters and brothers who struggle in our own backyards because of intolerance, enslavement and bondage.
Prayer: O God of the Exodus experience, draw your people into the new life where love and respect of all are made evident. Amen.
