Ecclesiological Etchings: 12-23-12

Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Thought for the Day: Jesus often spoke about the fullness of life, but what exactly was meant by those words.  I think Mary Oliver best captured what people might look like if only they chose to embrace the life Jesus brought in the here and now.  She wrote, “I look upon everything as a brotherhood and a sisterhood, and I look upon time as no more than an idea, and I consider eternity as another possibility … When it’s over, I want to say: all my life I was a bride married to amazement. I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms … I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.”  On this last Sunday of Advent, let us be a people who do not look beyond this existence for the fullness of life.  Instead, let us recognize the divine invitation to seize the abundant life in this very moment…an invitation that will take on an expedition of expectation to the stable and beyond.

Prayer: Holy Mystery, you request my presence at the nativity of love where the abundant life is fully revealed. May the hope contained within a woman’s womb encourage me to live the life of hope for all to see.  Amen.
