Scripture: John 1:16
From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
Thought for the Day: What is grace upon grace? According to William Barclay, this phrase is referring to how grace comes to us as we need it. Grace is not one-dimensional, with only one means of expressing itself. Grace is multifaceted, with an ability of conveying itself in any circumstance. Last night, I spent some time with a great group of guys from Cypress Creek Christian Church, and we talked about parenting – specifically, how parents with more than one child will not treat the children the same. Each is different, and you take into account the beautiful uniqueness (and the frustrating uniqueness). Too often we define grace as one dimensional, yet would that really be the far-reaching and unconditional love portrayed in the gift of the Christ Child? God’s grace manifests itself in so many marvelous ways as a means of letting every distinctive character know that s/he is loved beyond measure.
Prayer: Transform my narrow expectations of you, O Lord, so I may see your loving-kindness at work in the most unanticipated ways. Amen.
