Scripture: 1 John 4:7
Dear friends, let’s love each other, because love is from God, and everyone who loves is born from God and knows God.
Thought for the Day: I always want to be cautious when opening my mouth in the area of politics, but in recent weeks, I have felt the tug to say a couple of things. This push has come not only from what I have seen and heard on the news, but recently my son had a discussion in a school classroom on why they, as students, are told not to bully, but politicians make their living at it. It was Max Lucado who wrote, “It seems to me that election season is just a Petri dish for anger and cynicism.” I wish he wasn’t right, but it appears as if he knocked it out of the park with that one. We can do better, and for the sake of our kids, we MUST do better. It is ok to argue policy. In fact, we are at our best when we debate and find compromise through the honest sharing of ideas. And maybe we won’t always think in terms of loving one another, but the way of love – that includes seeing the divine image in every human being – is the way to true health for individuals and a society.
Prayer: Teach us, O Loving Lord, what it means to match our hopes and dreams with a path that will best display those hopes and dreams. We cannot expect to create something great with a nasty barnyard brawl. Amen.
