Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 3:18
All of us are looking with unveiled faces at the glory of the Lord as if we were looking in a mirror. We are being transformed into that same image from one degree of glory to the next degree of glory. This comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Thought for the Day: I have been reflecting on these words each day for the last three or four weeks. I follow it with a reading from the Gospels, specifically an image of Jesus at work with ordinary people. In reading those Gospel stories, I feel as if I am looking with an unveiled face at the glory of God…the fullness of God. It is less about the man with two arms and two legs, and more about the essence of this man who showed compassion and mercy and generosity and love. People say they believe in Jesus, but too often their belief is in a guy who walked the face of the earth. That’s it! The Bible’s understand of belief is to belove, that is to fall in love with the essence of Jesus. Had he just sat on a chair and declared, “I am the Son of God,” there wouldn’t have been much impact. In fact, there were (and continue to be) a lot of folks who claimed such a thing. It wasn’t in his declarations, but in his living that he was able to reveal the essence of God for all who were willing to look with unveiled faces. And when you do, you find yourself being slowly transformed into that which you see.
Prayer: Let all the veils that do not allow me to see be pushed aside that I might glimpse your glory, O Lord. Not only do I wish to see it, but I want to fall in love with it and allow it to change me as much as I can be changed. Amen.
