Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:11
We who are alive are always being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake so that Jesus’ life can also be seen in our bodies that are dying.
Thought for the Day: This Wednesday, we begin what we are calling: Second Chance Sundays (Come when you can Dinner: 6:15-6:45pm; Study: 6:45 – 7:30pm). For those who might have missed Sunday, it provides an opportunity to connect with the message. But the real intend is to go a little deeper. Maybe the sermon raised some questions in your mind, or maybe it left you feeling uncomfortable. Or maybe, for some, they left disagreeing with what was preached. Within our tradition, this is not only permissible, but celebrated in the sense that it demonstrates how people are thinking. On Monday and Tuesday of each week, I hope to hear from you. I hope you’ll send me your thoughts and questions. Maybe you’ll offer some personal insight that provides a completely different take on the scripture. This is all good. Sunday, I preached out of the 4th chapter of 2nd Corinthians, and though I did not specifically mention the above passage, I believe there is a slight connection. In death, we find life. In life, we find a call to die. It becomes the cycle of Christ-like living. When we are choosing to let something die so that we might be born into something new, it is helpful to have the stories of faith imbedded within us. No matter who we are, it is frightening to let some part of us die. The stories that define who we are will help guide us through the fear and toward the new life.
Consider sending me a question or thought, but don’t wait too long. I’ll be working on this later today.

Prayer: Where the death of something unhealthy in my life could bring new life, I pray for your Spirit to guide me from the cross to the tomb to the dawn of a new day. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
