ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
November 6, 2022
A regular practice can become a habit. A habit, if given the opportunity, can become an enduring characteristic. Yet too often, people are not willing to put forth the initial effort to begin what could become a regular practice. I’m guilty of it. Whether it is better eating or more intentional prayer, I can think about it. I can even schedule a starting day. But the day comes and plans change, and I am quick to put off my starting date to an ambiguous date in the future. Before long, the initial idea is lost amidst a busy schedule. Throughout scripture, we are called to some pretty high ideals, yet so often the lofty thoughts in our heads never find traction to become an enduring characteristic. Being intentional is necessary. Otherwise, this whole Christianity thing will be nothing more than an unexplored theory.
Holy God, I desire for my life to more fully reflect you. Encourage me in this work, and when excuses begin to form in my mind, provide me an infusion of your Spirit that revitalizes and emboldens my purpose. Amen.
