Prayer for the Week: In a time when political passions and opinions have left families at odds with one another and too many people speaking of their former friends, it is time for us to make space for your Spirit to heal and to mend. It might not happen overnight, but we trust in the capacity of heavenly love to change both individuals and nations. We have allowed slogans and catchphrases, name calling and hateful rhetoric to take the place of what should be a healthy exchange of ideas. Very few are not guilty of taking the low road at one time or another. This is a prayer of confession, Holy and Merciful God, for it is through true confession that we can begin to unburden ourselves of the anger, distrust and hurt that has been experienced. It is never easy, yet moving forward is too often hindered by what we cannot leave behind. Let us envision once again the world demanded by the prophets and revealed in the life of Jesus, and then let us seek tangible ways of establishing this sacred dream in our lives and in the life of our community. May it be so! May it be so! Amen.
