Scripture: Psalm 139:9-10
If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.
Thought for the Day: I love the God-questions offered by children. Though they may sound a little silly to our ears, they are almost always asked with genuine curiosity and joyful inquiry. I remember a lock-in at the church with a group of 3rd and 4th graders who were getting ready for baptism. One of the kids asked a question that began a chain of questions. It started with one of the kids asking, “If God is here (pointing to the spot in which he was seated), and then I walk outside the room, does God stay here with you all or does God go with me?” One of the other kids followed quickly with the question, “And if God follows him out the door and I walk to the other side of the room, how does God choose which one of us to follow?” It was this delightful time as the kids ran around the room yelling, “Do you think God is over here?” We ended up developing some interesting thoughts around those questions, but I wish I would have known the following quote at the time of the lock-in. I don’t know who said it (I apologize to the author), but I love the point that is made: “There are only two kinds of people: those who are in God’s hands and know it and those who are in God’s hands and don’t know it.” During this Advent Season, I pray that each of us is renewed in the knowledge that God is with us all.
Prayer: Let me know of your unceasing presence, O God, as I grow to understand the Good News of Emmanuel, that you are with me and all humanity. Amen.
