Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Matthew 2:9-10
When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy.

Thought for the Day: Too often we miss our stopping place along the road. We set off in the right direction with the best intentions, yet somewhere along the way we lose focus for one of a myriad of reasons. Looking back over my life, I can name numerous times where I intently walked right past the destination to which God was leading. I missed the person who needed my attention; I ignored the problem that required my skill set; I overlooked the invitation to pause and give thanks. It is one thing to set out because the star beckons us, but it is important to continue to seek guidance every step of the way. The wise men were interrupted and redirected, yet they always reconnected the tool of God’s beckoning.

Prayer: Help me as I give attention to every step, Lord. Allow your Holy Spirit to guide me, especially when the original invitation has taken a slight turn. Amen.
