Scripture: Psalm 9:3-4
When my enemies turn and retreat, they fall down and die right in front of you because you have established justice for me and my claim, because you rule from the throne, establishing justice rightly.
Thought for the Day: As I continue on with Psalm 9, I wonder if these verses are a declaration of what has occurred or a statement of hopefulness. Now I am not suggesting that we should wish anyone’s death or injury, but when we are struggling with issues of injustice, I can understand the yearning for justice. And if we claim God to be a God of justice, should we not expect for justice to come? That is easy to say when you are not an individual who has spent your entire life suffering at the hands of injustice. How many millions of people – good and grace-filled people – have lived every moment of their lives as a slave or under a brutal regime? I do believe God is guiding the world toward justice, but the stories of the faithful are often the stories of those who have struggled to created justice for all of humanity… most of them viewing their own lives as a part of a greater work toward this holy and beautiful end.
Prayer: Keep my eyes on the prize of justice, O Right and Just God, for I desire to be a participant in your dream that is shaping our reality. Amen.
