Scripture: 2nd Thessalonians 1:3
Brothers and sisters, we must always thank God for you. This is only right because your faithfulness is growing by leaps and bounds, and the love that all of you have for each other is increasing.
Thought for the Day: There are two descriptors – “leaps and bounds” (Huperauxano = to increase exceedingly) and “increasing” (Pleonazo = to increase in abundance) used in this verse to describe what is happening within the community of Thessalonica. Too many Christians – with that, too many churches – are experiencing no leaps and bounds and absolutely no increases. This is not about worship attendance or membership, but about the essence of the church’s mission. Faithfulness and the showing of love are on a trajectory of growth. They are expanding and escalating among the the followers of Jesus in Thessalonica. In today’s culture, when more and more people are becoming disillusioned with the church, it is time to get back to the basics. Let us return to the simple objective Paul witnessed among those in Thessalonica.
Prayer: Continue to draw us to the basics, God who is faithful and full of love. Continue to encourage our work to never be satisfied where we are today. Amen.
