Scripture: 2nd Thessalonians 2:2
We don’t want you to be easily confused in your mind or upset if you hear that the day of the Lord is already here, whether you hear it through some spirit, a message, or a letter supposedly from us.
Thought for the Day: Have you felt as if someone in the Bible was writing with you in mind? As I read the words, “…don’t be easily confused,” I find myself feeling a sense of appreciation. There are times when I feel a bit confused on exactly how I am to act or think in regard to the day to day issues I might face as one who claims to be a follower of Jesus. In fun theological discourse that remains in the theoretical, I don’t feel much confusion. It is only when the world suddenly thrusts before the church a question that has absolutely no correlation in scripture. In such moments, I can become easily confused, and I’d guess I’m not alone. Paul goes on and tries to explain the situation, but frankly I don’t find his answer to be all that helpful…though maybe the folks in Thessalonica did. In the end, I must always depend on two things: 1. We are called to love the Lord and love our neighbor; and 2. No matter how confused we may feel, we must always trust in grace.
Prayer: There are times when this faith is rather clear-cut, but other times I am left confused and uncertain. Provide me a spirit of discernment, O Lord, along with your grace that will love me amidst the confusion. Amen.
