Scripture: Romans 12:14
Bless people who harass you—bless and don’t curse them.
Thought for the Day: In yesterday’s sermon, I used Romans 12:15 that speaks about being happy with those who are happy and crying with those who are crying, but the verse right before (12:14) is a bit more pointed and demanding. Most of us would find the idea of blessing those who harass us difficult enough on our best day, but in this time when most of us are exhausted and emotionally drained, the act of blessing is a bit more of a challenge. As you begin your day, spent an extra minute or two in prayer. Seek the collaboration of the Spirit for what you will face this day. Don’t go at it alone, for if you do, cursing will probably be the go-to response.
Prayer: I not only come seeking you in this time of prayer, O Spirit of Wisdom and Strength, but I come with an openness to the gifts you offer. Provide me with the tools necessary to live in the way of Christ who blessed those who harassed him. Give me the spiritual tenacity to filter my language and make room for your grace. Amen.
