Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: James 4:17
It is a sin when someone knows the right thing to do and doesn’t do it.

Thought for the Day: I always like knowing who said something before quoting it as there is the fear that I am quoting some individual who did something horrible. With that said, I am going to offer these words without knowing who said them –

You’re not a good person because you like doing what’s right. You are one because you do what’s right even though you don’t like it.

Behavior that is ethical, respectful, healing and life-giving, is not always easy or even fun. Too often Christians are plenty religious until that moment when Christ-like behavior isn’t fun or doesn’t quite align with what they enjoy doing. Christians can be exceptional excuse-makers, yet at the end of the day, it is a sin to know what is right and not to do it. Let us strive to do what is right for the sake of God’s reign of love and mercy.

Prayer: I really wish this following Jesus thing was a bit easier, yet you call me nonetheless. Let me hear your Spirit’s ever so quiet voice, O Lord. Let me hear not only the calling but the expectation of that calling when it comes to my behavior. Amen.
