PRAYER…
With humility and a little anxiousness, we make a request of you, O Lord. We desire to be generous. Not to gain recognition among our peers; not to get a good tax break next April; not to dissuade some unresolved guilt. We desire to be generous because Jesus, your illustration of the true human life, was generous with everything. In faith, we look to him not simply as a savior but as the model for how a spiritually healthy individual is to live. There is something essential in the act of giving away, relinquishing our grip on something that might have unknowingly taken hold of us. Teach us to be generous, O Gracious God, for it is one of the essential acts if we are to call ourselves disciples of Jesus. It is in his name that we pray. Amen.
