Scripture: Romans 6:14
Sin will have no power over you, because you aren’t under Law but under grace.
Thought for the Day: Those are some pretty bold words. To suggest that mistakes, blunders and outright violations of our relationship with God will not have power over us sounds a little too good to be true. Why not continue to move forward with more and more mistakes, blunders and outright violations of our relationship with God? For Paul, you are either a slave to sin or a slave to God (vs.15-18). I would suggest that many people remain a slave to sin and see themselves as an enthusiastic fan of God. Paul has no interest in sideline cheerleaders. Breaking free from sin through the gift of love is required for one to be a slave to God and to the ways of God shown to us in Jesus. Will perfection ever be achieved? No! But relinquishing ourselves more fully to God’s grace and allowing the vulnerability of self before the Spirit are both possible and necessary. It takes work, but it is all made possible by grace. By grace, our success is not the measure. Instead, our success is God’s gift to us as we live more fully into the vision God has for our lives.
Prayer: Continue to encourage and inspire me through your grace, O Lord. I yearn for my life to be lived in such a way that my commitment is to nothing other than you. Amen.
