Scripture: Romans 6:23
The wages that sin pays are death, but God’s gift is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thought for the Day: If you have been around me much, then you have heard this before. I believe it is both important and essential to understand the word Aionios (Greek word translated as Eternal). Christians are very focused on eternal life as it relates to what happens upon our death. We want to know that our essence is not lost to death. But the word Aionios doesn’t simply mean without end, but it also describes that which has no beginning. Some might think this is describing heaven, but only God is the Alpha and Omega – the One who existed before there was a beginning and will exist beyond the end. When Paul speaks of eternal life, he is calling people to connect themselves fully to God. Through baptism, we join the One who is eternal and begin to live the eternal life. It is this gift that helps us face human death without fear. We have already died in the waters of baptism, and our eternal existence started with our rising from those waters. Don’t delay! Begin living and enjoying the Eternal Life (the God-Life) today.
Prayer: Let me know and experience what it means to truly live life fully connected to you, O Eternal God. Left to my nature, I am limited in every way imaginable, but connected to you, and suddenly I find walls of short-sidedness and restrictedness disappearing. Amen.
