Prayer for the Week: We wish for a world that is healthy, where no one must know the suffering brought about by disease. We wish for a world that knows peace, where no one fears violence. We wish for a world that lives compassion, where no one is left by themselves. We wish for a world that looks different than the one we currently see, but there remains what appears to be an insurmountable gulf between what is and what could be. O God whose kingdom is about health, peace and compassion, engage our pessimism with glimpses of what is possible through the power of your Spirit. Encourage us to be more than believers in your reign of grace and inclusion, but those who are about the work of laying the territorial markers that define a reign where all of humanity finds welcome, acceptance, mercy and hope. Let us echo the prayer of Jesus who spoke about your kingdom and your will being done on earth as it is in heaven. Ignite within us a belief that we, as the Spirit-filled body of Christ, can participate in the revealing of heavenly principles in this earthly arena. Amen.
