ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 18, 2020Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:1So then, brothers and sisters, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus to keep living the way you already are and even do better in how you live and please God—just as you learned from us. Thought for the Day: Let me begin by acknowledging my discomfort with Paul emphasizing at the end of the verse how he and his
ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 17, 2020Scripture: 1st Thessalonians 5:17Pray continually. Thought for the Day: Like you, I have always asked how does a person pray continually. There is nothing I choose to do that I do continually. It’s funny how space has been created this last week for many of us, a space that we usually would have filled with all kinds of good (and maybe not so good) activities.
ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 17, 2020Scripture: Ephesians 2:19-22So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 16, 2020Prayer for the Week: Giver of Life and the Abundant Life, this world is quite amazing. There is so much we do not understand or cannot even begin to comprehend, yet we are most often awe-struck by the beautiful complexity and depth to everything that is. There are moments, though, when the mystery and the uncertainty leave us struck, but with anxiousness. In our world
ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 15, 2020Scripture: Psalm 57:1Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by. ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 14, 2020Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. Thought for the Day: What happens when you want to love the Lord, but your heart is broken, your soul is crushed and your strength is gone? Trust me when I say that God is not upset in those moments. God very
ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 13, 2020Scripture: James 1:2My brothers and sisters, think of the various tests you encounter as occasions for joy. Thought for the Day: As I drove home from the church last night, there was a rather strange looking bug clinging to my windshield. Though my top speed on my drive home was 41mph, the little guy seemed to hold on quite well. Though every time I stopped,
ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 12, 2020Scripture: Psalm 94:18-19Whenever I feel my foot slipping, your faithful love steadies me, LORD. When my anxieties multiply, your comforting calms me down. Thought for the Day: Is anyone feeling a little on edge these days? There is a lot happening in our world, and some of the voices on tv (social media) are not creating a sense of peace and calm. I remain committed
ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 11, 2020Scripture: Matthew 12:33-35Either consider the tree good and its fruit good, or consider the tree rotten and its fruit rotten. A tree is known by its fruit. Children of snakes! How can you speak good things while you are evil? What fills the heart comes out of the mouth. Thought for the Day: I’m backing up a few verses from yesterday as I often slide
ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGSMarch 10, 2020Scripture: Matthew 12:35-36Good people bring out good things from their good treasure. But evil people bring out evil things from their evil treasure. I tell you that people will have to answer on Judgment Day for every useless word they speak. Thought for the Day: On Sunday after church, I was walking to the parking lot feeling good about the morning. I had a couple
